MS Cotton Cleopatra B.XIII

The origin of this manuscript was the scriptorium established at Exeter by Bishop Leofric and it was produced there during his episcopate, 1050-1072. The manuscript contains Old English homilies and a number of other short pieces, among which is the Old English version of the coronation oath reproduced here. Cotton Cleopatra may originally have been part of a larger manuscript and it seems likely that it was produced for the use of a bishop, possibly Leofric himself.
