This manuscript, often referred to as the Samson Pontifical because of the additions made during the episcopate of Bishop Samson of Worcester (1096-1112), was originally produced at Canterbury in the early eleventh century. It contains a number of ordeal manuals and penitential rites, some of which are reproduced here.
