This single sheet manuscript containing the Articles of the Barons is the undated original document submitted to King John at Runnymede as the basis of Magna Carta and sealed there in June 1215. The damaged impression of John's seal, in white wax, is preserved separately after it broke off the document in the nineteenth century. The manuscript was kept in the archives of the archbishops of Canterbury, where it was presumably placed by Archbishop Stephen Langton, before being presented to the British Museum in the eighteenth century.
