Stephen’s 1136 charter of liberties for the Church (St eccl)
This charter is usually seen as a bid on the part of King Stephen (r. 1135-1154) to gain ecclesiastical support. It confirms the rights of the English church and now survives in the original in the possession of the dean and chapter of Salisbury cathedral.
